Evel Knievel wore his sponsor's number one on the shoulder of his leathers. He wasn't racing anyone for it. When a television crew put a microphone in front of him and asked him about it, he gave the only answer he ever gave: he wore the number one because he was number one. Then he went out and cleared the jump, and nobody in the grandstand argued the point.
That is the number on this sweatshirt — the Evel Knievel® #1 team mark, stylized for us with Evel himself wheelieing straight through the middle of the numeral. The claim and the proof in one piece of artwork. That is where this design came from.
