He attempted more than 150 jumps in his life. Some of them went the way he drew them up: Ascot in 1967, Toronto in 1974, fourteen buses at Kings Island in 1975. Some of them did not: Caesars Palace on New Year's Eve 1967, the Snake River Canyon in 1974, Wembley in 1975.
He got up from all of them, which is why the line landed and why it is still funny.
