THE TOWN
Butte, Montana. A mining town on a hill a mile above sea level. Robert Craig Knievel was born there in 1938, raised by his grandparents, went to Butte High, and worked the copper mines before he ever stood on a ramp. He is buried there now, at Mountain View Cemetery, a couple of miles from where he started.
He called himself a Butte, Montana original. He wasn't being modest — he meant there was nowhere else that produced men like him.
