25 October 1975, Kings Island amusement park outside Cincinnati. Five months after Wembley broke his pelvis and he told a stadium he was done, he lined up fourteen Greyhound buses — one more than London — and cleared all of them. A hundred and thirty-three feet, clean landing, rode it out.
ABC carried it on Wide World of Sports and it drew the highest rating the program ever recorded. If you were a kid in America that autumn, you watched it. Then you went outside and built a ramp out of a plank and two cinder blocks.
