December 31, 1967. Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. A hundred and forty-one feet of fountains between one ramp and another, and a man most of that town had never heard of lining up to go over them.
He came up short. The crash put him in the hospital for twenty-nine days, and the film of it made him the most famous daredevil in America. That is the night the legend started — the original, before anybody else thought to try.
